He would eagerly appear at rehearsals for Richard Wagner’s “Ring of the Nibelung” and occupy a musician’s chair (usually during intermission), after which he would fall asleep to the accompaniment of the entire orchestra.

The musician, although he could exclude himself from further playing, would usually get another chair or move to the next vacant console… The cat, called the Wagner’s Ghost, was put to sleep by the soft tones of the violas (he usually kept his seat by them), cellos and Wagnerian tubas. He would not even wake up to the sound of more instruments, but an orchestra tutti – especially together with a wind machine and a set of anvils in forte, which illustrated the forging of swords – was already too much for him. Then he would jump off his chair, walk with a look of distaste on his face along the consoles, then next to the conductor or conductoress and disappeared in the darkness of the audience’s seats to reappear again the next day…

This is the story.”

Thank you so much for the story about a lover of softer sounds, as you know cats appreciate peace and harmony 😉 they are also famous for their fussy nature, so to have such a critic present is an honour!

Just a reminder, it’s World Cat Day on 17 February!
