Someone unfamiliar with the visual arts will also find it easier to make their first contact with it at the opera: they will be looking at the vivid image, which are the decorations and characters in costumes, while they will also be interested in the music and the dramatic plot. Finally, someone unfamiliar with the drama will find it easiest to get acquainted with it at the opera, as the course of the plot and the emotional conflicts of the characters will be emphasised by the music. Thus, opera is a kind of frontal field, a simultaneous attack of several arts on a new viewer.”
